Thompson Engineering served as the Civil Engineer of Record for the State of Alabama’s Gulf State Park Master Plan and Enhancement Project. Under 14 contracts and task orders, Thompson Engineering performed survey, drilling, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, laboratory testing, subsurface utility engineering, and construction inspection and materials testing services in support of the massive project. All of these services were performed in support of the project’s aspirations of achieving multiple sustainable development certifications.
More than 60 Thompson employees worked on the project, logging more than 14,000 hours on the project’s Lodge, Interpretive Center, Education Center, trails, and pedestrian bridges. Thompson’s work supported the Gulf State Park Lodge becoming the first hospitality project in the world to seek SITES Platinum in addition to LEED Gold certifications. Additionally, our work supported the Interpretive Center and Education Campus projects in seeking LEED, Living Building Challenge, and FORTIFIED Commercial certifications.
In Fall 2018, Gulf State Park celebrated its grand opening and made its mark as an international benchmark of environmental and economic sustainability demonstrating best practices for outdoor recreation, education, and hospitable accommodations.
