From 2009-2011, Thompson Engineering provided quality assurance inspection, office engineering, and virtual construction services in support of the construction of new facilities for the 7th Special Forces Group (Army Airborne). The 7th Special Forces Group was realigned to Eglin Air Force Base, FL in the Base Realignment and Closure program (BRAC) in 2005.
Quality Assurance Inspection was provided for various projects as selected and assigned by the area or resident engineer. Office engineering required functions equivalent in technical complexity and competency to those performed by project engineers at the resident offices. Our staff performed services from the area office utilizing Microsoft Office; RMS; and CEFMS. The scope of this work included:
Thompson also provided Building Information Modeling (BIM) and scheduling services to support the constructability analysis. Thompson prepared 3D constructability models and reports of the planned facilities to identify and coordinate problems between disciplines. The QA Representative was able to utilize this documentation to avoid conflict and to coordinate issues discovered. Utilizing location-based line of balance scheduling software, the schedule analysis examined the contractor’s proposed construction schedule to identify areas of schedule conflict. Scheduling improvements were recommended to eliminate conflict points, which improved work of the various trade contractors working concurrently in specific areas.
