The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues work on Herbert Hoover Dike, a 143-mile earthen dam surrounding Lake Okeechobee. The Corps has made a significant investment, more than $870 million, in projects designed to reduce the risk of catastrophic failure of the aging structure. Actions taken include installing a partial cutoff wall, removing and replacing water control structures (culverts), and conducting a variety of studies and technical reviews to help ensure the safety of south Florida residents.
Quality Assurance Activities
In 2013, Thompson Engineering was subcontracted by MOCA Systems to provide QA/QC services providing daily contractor oversight, quality assurance, inspections, and general reviews of contractor operations for a period of five years. On multiple task orders, Thompson provided and managed QA personnel assigned to supplement Corps’ personnel. Under this contract, Thompson provided highly qualified employees to supplement the Corps’ staff, allowing them to leverage their inspection capabilities over numerous contracts and an area of almost a half million acres.
