Mobile, Ala. –Thompson Engineering announced today that the Thompson Holdings Foundation has made a $20,000 donation to kick start a STEM Studio at ACCEL Day and Evening Academy in Mobile, Ala. Since its formation in 2013, the Thompson Holdings Foundation has awarded more than $850,000 to organizations across the Southeast. “Recently, we have been asking ourselves how we can do more and make an impact in our area of expertise,” said John Baker, CEO of Thompson Engineering. “We knew we could do something special by combining our financial resources and our employees’ talent and time.”
The MAEF STEM Studio at ACCEL, sponsored by Thompson Engineering, will engage all students attending ACCEL. The STEM Studio is outfitted with specialized equipment and learning tools such as a robotic arm, 3-D printer, LEGO Engineering kits, and computer stations. Thompson employees will also spend time in the classroom assisting students with STEM curriculum and will partner with the school to host excursions for in-the-field learning. “Part of our responsibility as professionals is to inspire interest in engineering and STEM-related careers,” said Baker.“We hope this partnership does that and leads these students on a path to successful STEM careers.”
