A $1.4 billion base oil project at a major refinery in the Southeast is designed to manufacture 25,000 barrels per day of premium base oil used in products like top-tier motor oil, lubricants, and greases for machinery and equipment in the commercial and industrial sectors.
Thompson Engineering provided geotechnical subsurface explorations (marine and landside) including in-situ vane shear testing, field and laboratory soils testing, construction surveys, construction materials testing, materials and geotechnical engineering, analyses and reports. We also performed concrete, soil, and asphalt testing, pile installation monitoring, and integrity testing. Our subsurface utility engineering (SUE) and mapping services include ground penetrating radar (GPR), radio frequency, and documentation of pot-holing. Drill rig coring of soil mix columns, concrete testing and statistical reporting, pile installation monitoring and testing were also performed.
The project’s facilities under design and construction included new process plants, storage tanks, railroad spurs, pipe-racks, and marine facilities. Thompson furnished geotechnical explorations, soils testing, topographic surveys, construction surveys and foundation design services.
Our work was performed under multiple contracts. We used our own drill units and crews, as well as certified technicians at a local project office and at our local certified materials laboratory to provide timely, high-quality service and technical support. We furnished weekly project cost and schedule reporting and electronic document control and invoicing in accordance with systems required by the owner.
