Pay As You Go Program
Improving Mobile County Roadways
Since 1992, Thompson Engineering and the Mobile County Commission have partnered to provide roadway and drainage improvements through the “Pay-As-You-Go" program. To date, Thompson Engineering has been involved in more than 130 miles of roadway improvements, with services ranging from permitting and project management to surveying and public involvement meetings. Thompson has signed 17 construction contracts with the County. The following is a list of services provided by Thompson during design and construction phases for the projects Thompson has completed:

widening of an existing road for additional lanes;

clearing, grubbing, grading, draining, basing and paving of dirt roads and new roadways;

resurfacing with traffic control installations, utility relocations, intersection improvements and right-of-way and/or drainage easement acquisition;

design of the first roundabout intersection in Mobile (used to connect three existing roads and two new roadways);

and Construction Best Management Practices (BMP) plans to prevent or minimize erosion and oversight to ensure Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) regulations.
