Thompson Engineering is a long-time partner of the Mobile County Public School System. Thompson’s work includes a variety of projects including new construction, renovations and program management.
Vigor High School, New Construction and Renovations
Thompson, in support of sister company Watermark Design, provided engineering and architectural design services for a 74,000 square foot addition to Vigor High School. The project included 40 new classrooms, a media center and a new administration wing, lobby and vending area. Thompson was also involved in renovations that allowed the school to meet safety standards including a new fire alarm system, intercom system and fire sprinkler system.
Thompson Engineering also provided Construction Management for the design and construction of the school system’s 2003 capital improvement projects. This involved the management of more than 30 separate projects totaling $120 million in five districts throughout the County. Thompson’s team assisted the Board of School Commissioners in the programming, budgeting and bidding process through an unprecedented cost escalation period from 2004-2007. At the program’s end, Thompson had helped the Board save $5 million. Those savings went to Mobile County schools for supplemental projects .
